Vietnam, Laos hold sixth round meeting of border experts in Luang Prabang

The head of the Vietnamese delegation was Vice Chairman of the National Boundary Commission Nguyen Hoang Hai, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam. The head of the Lao delegation was Chief of the Office of the National Border Committee Anousin Khattiyalath, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Laos. The meeting was attended by representatives from relevant ministries and sectors of both countries and the Consulate General of Vietnam in Luang Prabang.

In a spirit of friendship, special solidarity, and mutual trust, both sides reviewed the implementation of the Protocol on Borderlines and Border Markers, the Agreement on Border Management and Land Border Gate Regulations, and related agreements, focusing on progress made since the 34th annual meeting between the Vietnam-Laos Border Delegations in December 2025.

In the first half of 2026, the Vietnam-Laos border situation remained stable. Both sides continued to closely coordinate in border management and protection, maintaining effective regular working regimes; jointly organizing surveys and bilateral fieldwork; effectively managing immigration and cross-border activities, promoting economic and trade cooperation on both sides of the border; enhancing the dissemination and popularization of border and territorial laws, while setting directions and work plans for the second half of 2026.

The sixth round meeting made a significant contribution to firmly safeguarding sovereignty and border security, building the Vietnam-Laos border into a model of a peaceful, stable, cooperative, and sustainably developing border, strengthening the special solidarity, friendship, and strategic ties between Vietnam and Laos, for the practical benefit of the people of both nations.
