Vietnam has a system of 11 UNESCO-recognized World Biosphere Reserves, ranking it the second in Southeast Asia, only after Indonesia with 19.

According to the UNESCO definition, biosphere reserves include terrestrial, marine and coastal ecosystems. Each reserve promotes solutions reconciling the conservation of biodiversity and its sustainable use.
