Vietnam confirms five more coronavirus cases, total hits 99

The Ministry of Health today confirmed five more COVID-19 patients, including three Vietnamese and two British nationals, bringing the country's total number of cases to 99.

The 95th case is a Vietnamese man, 20, living in Go Vap District, HCM City who has studied in France since January 2019. On March 17, he travelled from Paris, France on Air France flight AF258, seat number 34J and arrived at Tan Son Nhat International Airport on March 18.

Upon entry, the patient had a sore throat and cough but had no fever and no difficulty breathing. He was transferred to an isolation ward in District 12. The HCM City Pasteur Institute confirmed his sample was positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus. He is currently isolated and being treated at the Củ Chi field hospital.

Case number 96 is a female, 21, living in District 8, HCM City.

In the two weeks before returning to Vietnam, the patient travelled to Belgium, Germany, the Czech Republic and France. She returned to Vietnam from France and transited to Dubai on Emirates Airlines flight EK392, seat number 30E. She arrived at Tan Son Nhat International Airport on March 19.

On the morning of March 20, the patient was transferred to an isolation ward at the dormitory of the HCM City National University with a fever and cough and was then transferred to the HCM City Hospital for Tropical Diseases for isolation, testing and treatment.

At the Tropical Diseases Hospital in HCM City, her test result was positive on March 21. The HCM City Pasteur Institute also confirmed her sample as positive for SARS-CoV-2.

Case number 97 is a male, 34, British national, residing in District 4, HCM City.

He is a foreign language teacher in Vietnam. The patient was in Malaysia for two weeks before returning to Vietnam. On March 13, in Penang, Malaysia he boarded AirAsia flight AK1502 and arrived in Tan Son Nhat International Airport the same day.

On March 14, the patient went to District 2's Buddha Bar, where the 91st patient went on the same day. On March 20, after learning about patient number 91, the patient went to FV Saigon Clinic in District 1 to report his epidemiological history, then was transferred to the HCM City Hospital for Tropical Diseases for isolation and testing. He had no COVID-19 symptoms at that moment.

The HCM City Tropical Diseases Hospital reported his sample as positive on March 21. The HCM City Pasteur Institute also confirmed his test as positive for SARS-CoV-2 virus.

Case number 98 is male patient, 34, British national, residing in District 4, HCM City. He lives in the same house as case 97 and is also a foreign language teacher in Việt Nam.

The patient travelled from Penang, Malaysia on AirAsia flight AK1502 to Tan Son Nhat International Airport on March 6. The patient went to the Buddha Bar on March 14 with patient number 97

On March 20, after learning about patient 91, he and patient 97 went to FV Saigon Clinic - District 1 to report their epidemiological history and were then transferred to the Hospital for Tropical Diseases for isolation and testing. He also had no symptoms at that time.

The HCM City Tropical Diseases Hospital reported his sample as positive on March 21. The HCM City Pasteur Institute also confirmed his positive test.

Case number 99 is a male patient, 29, Vietnamese nationality, living in Binh Thanh District, HCM City. On March 17, in Paris, France he boarded Air France flight AF258, seat number 33H and arrived at Tan Son Nhat International Airport on March 18. Upon entry, the patient showed no disease symptoms and was transferred to the isolation ward in District 12.

The HCM City Pasteur City Institute confirmed his sample as positive for SARS-CoV-2 virus on March 21.
