This is one of the activities marking the 50th anniversary of ASEAN on August 8.
In his remarks at the seminar, Vietnam’s designated Ambassador Dang Xuan Dung said ASEAN’s 50-year history has proven that peace and stability play a key role in the development and prosperity of each nation.

He stressed that one of its greatest successes is preventing conflicts and building a peaceful, stable and cooperative environment in Southeast Asia, as well as helping ASEAN nations complete economic targets.
Regarding traditional security challenges, Ambassador Dung shared information on the East Sea which is regularly discussed at meetings of ASEAN or between the bloc and its partners.
He said ASEAN has always emphasized the importance of maintaining peace, security, navigation and maritime freedom in the East Sea, as well as resolving disputes based on international law, including the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
The ambassador highlighted non-traditional challenges facing both Southeast Asian and Latin America, which included climate change, the scarcity of water resources, natural disasters, diseases, terrorism and threats to cyber security.
