Vietnam advocates handling terrorism challenges in Africa

Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy, Permanent Representative of Viet Nam to the UN, expressed his concerns over the activities of terrorist groups that are threatening stability and development in many African countries.

Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the UN Dang Dinh Quy attends the UN Security Council Open Debate on Counterterrorism and Violent Extremism in Africa on March 11.

Ambassador Quy raised the point at a UN Security Council Open Debate on Counterterrorism and Violent Extremism in Africa, on March 11.

At the Debate, Quy highlighted the importance of dealing with terrorism through addressing issues relevant to management, security, inequality and sustainable development, supposing that international conventions and UN resolutions must be effectively launched in struggling against funding and supporting terrorism.

He appraised the cooperation of African nations in this issue and called for support from the international community for African countries in handling terrorism and violent extremism challenges.

At the event, member countries of the UN Security Council expressed deep concerns over terrorism in Africa and its consequences on security, stability and development in the region.

They proposed launching comprehensive measures in addressing terrorism and violent extremism, including tackling challenges on socio-economic development, inequality and human rights, enhancement of the participation of women and youth as well as outstanding political challenges.

They stressed the need of international support to improve the capacity and resources serving the prevention of terrorism and violent extremism in Africa.

The UNSC ratified the Presidential Statement on this issue.
