In his remarks, the Vietnamese diplomat stressed that the post-COVID-19 recovery remains uneven across the globe, and the process of implementing sustainable development goals (SDGs) by 2030 is also disrupted, especially with regard to the goals of eradicating poverty and hunger.

To address these challenges, Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy affirmed that sustainable poverty eradication will only be achieved if the threats to food security are addressed together. Therefore, relevant legal and policy frameworks must focus on reducing poverty and inequality, improving capacity, and ensuring sustainable livelihoods for all.

Simultaneously, to ensure food security, an important foundation for hunger eradication and poverty alleviation, countries need to increase investment in science, technology and agricultural innovation to increase productivity and resilience and sustainability.

On this occasion, the Ambassador also reaffirmed Viet Nam's willingness to join the UN's cooperation frameworks and aspires to develop into a regional food innovation hub.

In addition, to deal with the causes of poverty and inequality, countries need to step up education and training, create jobs, and improve the coherence between social welfare and agricultural policies.

Regarding international cooperation, he called on the international community and development partners to enhance multilateral cooperation, fulfill ODA commitments, and mobilize resources for comprehensive recovery and resolution of the debt crisis.

The Ambassador reiterated Viet Nam's comprehensive measures and achievements in hunger eradication and poverty reduction, and food security. Viet Nam is committed to fully implementing SDGs for a sustainable future for all, he added.

According to UN Secretary-General's report, the COVID-19 pandemic has reversed recent world achievements in reducing poverty and inequality, while exacerbating vulnerability of many disadvantaged groups.

In that context, the UN chief said that recovering from COVID-19 is an opportunity for countries to build and develop long-term policy frameworks to achieve SDGs.

During the meeting, countries shared experience and initiatives on social policies to deal with the impacts of the pandemic, especially in terms of hunger eradication, poverty alleviation, and addressing challenges relating food security.
