Co-chairing the event were Co-Chairwomen of The Left Janine Wissler and Susanne Hennig-Wellsow.

Trung briefed participants about major contents of documents of the Congress on socio-economic and cultural development, the building of the Party and political system.

He introduced the article “Some theoretical and practical issues about socialism and the path towards socialism in Viet Nam” by Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and the leader’s speech at a national teleconference reviewing the five-year implementation of the Politburo’s Decree No.05-CT/TW on a campaign on studying and following the thought, morality and lifestyle of President Ho Chi Minh on the occasion of his 131st birth anniversary.

The Vietnamese official affirmed that Viet Nam treasures its relationship with Germany – one of the leading partners of Viet Nam in Europe, and wished that ties between the Communist Party of Viet Nam (CPV) and The Left will contribute to developing Viet Nam-Germany strategic partnership in an active, practical and effective manner.

He suggested The Left supports economic ties between Viet Nam and the EU, including the EU-Viet Nam Investment Protection Agreement and the EU-Viet Nam Free Trade Agreement.

Wissler and Hennig-Wellsow congratulated the CPV on the success of its Congress and expressed their belief that under the leadership of the CPV, Viet Nam will achieve goals and national development vision set by the Congress.

Speaking highly of the substantial ties between the CPV and The Left, they affirmed that the CPV is an important part of The Left’s external relations.

They also briefly informed the Vietnamese side on the outcomes of the seventh Congress of The Left, the political situation in Germany before the federal parliament election in September and the political landscape in Europe.

The two sides also discussed measures to promote ties between the two Parties and nations.
