On October 22, at the Diplomatic Academy, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son chaired a Dialogue with the topic “Innovation and Participation for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future” between UN Secretary General Antonio Guterrez and nearly 400 young Vietnamese students and youth from Government agencies, the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, political and social organizations, non-governmental organizations in the field of youth, sustainable development, climate change, a number of universities in Hanoi and United Nations Peacekeeping members.

Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son affirmed that the Party and State of Vietnam always make constant efforts to ensure the participation and contribution of young people in the process of policy making, socio-economic development and the implementation of sustainable development goals.
Foreign Minister Son highly appreciated the close cooperation and support of the United Nations in this process, especially practical and creative projects and initiatives coordinated between the United Nations and ministries, branches and agencies and Vietnamese youth organizations, including the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union.
In his sharing with young people and students, UN Secretary-General António Guterres expressed his appreciation for the warm affection of the people, especially Vietnamese youth and students, rendered for him and the United Nations during his visit to Vietnam.

The Secretary General said that the strongest impression on him is the pioneering spirit, creativity, dare to take responsibility and commitment to serve of Vietnamese youth. The examples of Vietnamese youth participating in UN peacekeeping activities and building close relationships between PKO Missions and local communities are models for the United Nations to replicate in this important activity, he noted.

The Secretary-General affirmed that the United Nations, with UN youth Strategy “Youth 2030”, will continue to accompany young people and support them to strengthen their role, voice and participation in all aspects of economic, political and social life.

At the dialogue, representatives of Vietnamese youth and students shared their experiences, thoughts and feelings about the participation of Vietnamese youth in UN activities, such as peacekeeping, health care, combating climate change, preserving heritage... as well as the progress of implementing sustainable development goals.
Youth representatives raised a number of challenges facing by young people and made very practical recommendations to the Secretary-General as well as suggested that the United Nations continue to pay attention to promoting youth participation and raising awareness among young people about contributing to the communities and global efforts.
