The Regiment Commander - Exemplary in His Words and Work

The No. 224 Air Defense Regiment (named after Hero To Vinh Dien) is stationed in Da Nang city. The central political assignment of the unit is to do the training, be ready for combats, to defend the airspace in the Central region – Highlands.

An Exemplary Bright Example

In order to organize the command to complete its political tasks well, keep the unit steady and well developed, as a Regiment Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Tu has deeply perceived his position, the meaning and the importance of the campaign "Tradition to be promoted, talents dedicated, deserving the title of Uncle Ho's soldiers"; he considers the four contents of the campaign as the motto to strive, practice, overcome difficulties, and fulfill the assignments and missions.

He joined efforts with the Party Committee and the Regiment's commanders to take care of consolidating the solidarity and unity, uphold the principles, properly implement the leadership, harmoniously settle disputes in the relationships, always put the common interests above of personal interests; he worked out many measures to improve the leadership capacity and the combat power of the Party organizations and educated, drilled and managed his subordinate cadres and party members. At the same time, he always respects his comrades’ opinions and listens to the officers and soldiers; to get to know the inner thoughts and legitimate aspirations of comrades and soldiers.

Therefore, over the past years, the Party Committee of the Regiment has always successfully completed its assignments, holding the first flag of the Division 375 of the Air Defense and the Air force.

In actual deployment of the campaign "Tradition to be promoted, talents dedicated, deserving the title of Uncle Ho's soldiers", Senior Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Tu always keeps pondering, thinking and exploring the relevant initiatives and solutions for the unit's missions and situations.

As a result, many models of learning to follow Uncle Ho were initiated and brought into full swing: The model "One teaching word of Uncle Ho is learnt by heart each day, one military rule is learnt by heart each week”; the model of "Four-good-trait Party Cell"; the model "3 things done together, 4 things known together" were rolled out in the personnel management task of getting to know and manage the thoughts of the soldiers; also the model "Common Rice Jar for Comrades in Arms" helps consolidate the fraternity.

A special feature about him that makes his Comrades in Arms cherish and admire is his empathy, understanding and feeling shared with his comrades, teammates, and seeing them as brothers in the family. Seeing that many officers, soldiers, army men in the unit are of ethnic minorities in difficult circumstances, Senior Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Tu is ready to initiate a fund raising, to mobilize donations for supporting them, both materially and spiritually.

It is identified in the Regiment that there are 30 cases of soldiers with difficult family circumstances, more than 20 soldiers are from ethnic minorities. With the movement "Common Rice Jar for Comrades in Arms", the Regiment has saved over VND 30 million; so relief teams are organized to pay visit, and offer 9 gift-portions to those poor families.

His teammates’ deed, though small, has a great and practical significance in the work of political ideological education, strengthening the military solidarity, building a safe unit, a strong local political background, making the officers and soldiers to trust in the leadership, the commanders, and they love, stick to the military unit.

To meet the requirements of the assignments of being ready for combat, proactive control the airspace in the new situation, Senior Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Tu has prepared many guidelines and solutions to improve the quality of training, drilling and live-fire artillery training for land-to-air artillery companies and A72 Low-Range Missile Force. The annual results show that the military units participating in live-fire artillery training have successfully completed their missions, destroying the targets right from the first rounds of firing, which is awarded with sharp-shooting flag by the Commander in Chief of the Air Defense & Air force.

In order to maintain the on-the-alert status of stand-by combat readiness persistently through the headquarters of the Regiment to the combat units, it is to strictly observe the "4 things to be known together" in the control of the airspace; no errors occur; no unobserved or delayed cases, rate of observation and detection, timely announcement, and perceived alarm all of which reach 100% in test.

Along with that performance, he is always closely taking proper concerns of, fostering knowledge, exchanging experiences in training and management of the army for cadres at all levels, especially the presiding officers and newly graduated young officers. Therefore, the results of training, rehearsal, competitions of agencies and units show good marks. And undertakings are remarked with high prizes; recognized with professional level with disciplines to be well maintained.

Those results have made important contributions to the Regiment’s achievement of “Excellent Training Unit” during 5 consecutive years, and were awarded the excellent unit flag in the emulation of the Ministry of Defense and the Air Defense – Air force.

Striving to be become a "red" and a "professional" army officer

As a good commander, Senior Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Tu must always cultivate and practice strong political merit, and moral qualities, to lead a clean and healthy lifestyle. He has to be an exemplary figure, with words coming along with works, thinking positively, speaking definitely, working diligently, always put the common interests above the personal interests, with voluntary enthusiasm, and accountability in consolidating the army unit.

It is for him to study actively, improve the military professional qualifications, improve vision, take initiative in overcoming difficulties, grasp the control of the unit, keep close to the battlefield, training grounds, and organize the unit command to complete the assignments with good performance.

Along with that, it is necessary to raise the empathy, responsibility, and affection of comrades in arms. It is also important to build the unified solidarity among the party committee level, unit commanders, so that the upper and the lower levels could reach the consensus. Another assignment is to implement the military rear-area policy, namely the taking care of and helping the families of cadres and soldiers who are in disadvantaged circumstances.
