The two sides exchanged views on ways to enhance the ASEAN-UK Dialogue Partnership and discussed preparations for Dr Kao Kim Hourn’s upcoming working visit to the UK in November 2023.

Before coming to the UK, Dr Kao Kim Hourn had a long trip to Japan (October 24-29, 2023), holding bilateral meetings with key cabinet members of Japan including Prime Minister Kishida Fumio and Foreign Minister Kamikawa Yoko.

The head of the ASEAN Secretariat attended the 5th ASEAN-Japan Smart Cities Network High Level Meeting and the ASEAN-Japan Tourism Ministers’ Special Dialogue in 2023.

This visit took place at an important juncture as ASEAN and Japan celebrate the 50th anniversary of their dialogue relations this year. Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa recently visited a series of ASEAN countries including Brunei, Vietnam, Laos and Thailand from October 8-13.
