Party Committee of Cua Ong Coal Selection Company: Bright spot of the Northeast coal region

The most prominent imprint in the past 5 years is that the company has caught up with the policy of changing the business model from "Coal production and consumption" to "Coal production and trading" under the Resolution No. 40 of the Party Committee of the Corporation.

In addition to ensuring the norms of coal mine extraction, transporting, importing, processing, mixing, and consuming under the direction of the Corporation, Cua Ong Coal Selection Company has focused on synchronous investment in facilities, quality, technique; renovated the production technologies, upgraded the equipment and infrastructure to maximize capacity, improve the coal warehouses, to meet coal mixing and processing norms as required by the market demands.

The decisive milestone in the company's structure and development is the synchronous implementation of the "Three modifications" strategy and the labor restructuring. On the basis of available equipment and technology lines, the Company prioritizes its resources to continue mechanization, automation and computerization in all stages of production lines.

Accordingly, resources were invested into the centralized control system which has been successfully put into use in the Coal Filter and Drying Workshop, and Warehouse Workshop at Quay 2. The system has quickly brought about many benefits, reducing the manpower and production costs, increasing the equipment productivity with safety to be ensured.

At the same time, the application of computerization was promoted, using advanced softwares to manage production and business and synchronize with the Corporation's management and operation system, bringing about a very comprehensive effect; reducing the unnecessary costs.

Within a period of 5 years, bearing in mind the high political determination, Cua Ong Coal Selection Company’s Party Committee has focused on the leadership, setting up the production projects, concentrating its resources on methodical, scientific, reasonable, relevant implementation of its successful re-structuring.

The operational apparatus of 17 workshops and 20 offices has been reorganized to a neat size of 14 workshops and 13 offices, and one cultural sport center. The production chains and equipment of Cua Ong mining facility have been invested and renovated to ensure modernity and suitability; human resources were streamlined and irrationalities removed. The restructuring has really been a lever to improve labor productivity and the product quality. The employees were encouraged to promote their intelligence, talent and guaranteed in their employment and income.

Along with focusing on investment, maintaining the production - business goals, to ensure the environmental harmony is one of the important tasks of Cua Ong Coal Selection Company. The Company is the first and only unit in the entire Corporation to successfully apply the environment management system ISO 14001:2015.

Every year from the screening and processing systems, there are over 1 million tons of wastewater, sludge after sorting that needs to be treated. The company has invested in wastewater collection system which collects the wastewater from production, domestic disharge and rainwater, the washed out water, then separating, settling and filtering with modern technology.

Up to now, 100% of this wastewater has been reused in production, without affecting the ecological environment. Along with that, the Company has completed the project of transporting waste rock back to the mine and officially put it into operation from the end of 2019, thoroughly solving the problem of waste rock dumping after sorting, reducing the risk of environmental pollution.

Regarding the consolidation of the Party and the care of the lives of employees, these areas have always been identified by the Company as the key to help businesses develop sustainably. The Party Committee of the Company has renewed its leadership method; improved the combat capacity and strength of the Party organizations and cells, increased the effectiveness and efficiency of leadership and the administration in production aspects.

As a result, for 3 consecutive years, from 2015 to 2017, the Party Committee of Cua Ong Coal Selection Company has been continuously recognized by the Party Committee of the Corporation as "Typically strong and pure". Every year, the ranking of party members shows the excellence at approximately 20% and task completion at nearly 80%.

Over the past 5 years, Cua Ong Coal has been evaluated as a bright spot in the Northeast Region in caring for the life of employees, with cultural activities, arts and sports. If in 2015, the average monthly salary of employees of Cua Ong Coal Selection Company reached nearly VND 7 million/person, by 2019, this average income increased to approximately VND 9 million, accounting for 30% higher than it was 5 years ago. Given the employment was stable with well established jobs with higher income, the Cua Ong coal workers could participate in cultural activities, entertainment and sports after hard working hours.

Constantly innovative, constantly developing, in any circumstances, Cua Ong Coal Selection always firmly affirms its position and role as the largest coal selection unit in screening, processing and consuming of Vietnam National Coal – Mineral Industries Holding Corporation which supplies nearly 10 million tons of coal annually.

In the term 2020-2025, facing the new opportunities and challenges, promoting the tradition of "discipline and consensus" of miners, the Cua Ong Coal Selection Party Committee is following in the footsteps of the previous generations to open new pages of history, building the company for comprehensive and sustainable development; contributing positively to the cause of industrialization and modernization of the country; to affirm the position of Vietnam National Coal – Mineral Industries Holding Corporation and the heroic Quang Ninh mining land on the path of integration and development.
