The successful visit has provided further impetus for strengthening the neighbourliness, enhancing the political trust and deepening the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between Vietnam and China.

During the visit from October 30 to November 1, the Chinese side welcomed General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and the Vietnamese delegation with a solemn ceremony and deep respect. In a friendly and open atmosphere, Chinese General Secretary and President Xi Jinping and leaders of the Chinese Government, the National People's Congress and the People's Political Consultative Conference welcomed and held talks with General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

Chinese leaders spoke highly of the special significance of the visit as General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong is the first foreign leader to be welcomed by China since the 20th Congress of the CPC and China is the first country General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong visited after the 13th Congress of the CPV. This reflects the great importance that Vietnam and China attach to the relationship between the two Parties and countries.

Chinese General Secretary and President Xi Jinping’s awarding of the Friendship Order to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong demonstrates the Chinese Party, State and people’s recognition and high evaluation of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong’s contributions to guiding and developing the Vietnam-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.

It also indicates the profound comradeship and brotherhood between China and Vietnam, as well as the desire of the two Parties and countries to pursue a bright future. General Secretary and President Xi Jinping also invited General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong to attend a friendly tea chat, which was a special gesture reflecting that the Chinese leader attaches importance to and wishes to enhance the intimacy and trust with the Vietnamese leader.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong congratulated the CPC on the success of its 20th Congress, setting forth on a new journey to build a modernised socialist China by 2035, towards the second centenary goal, and congratulated Xi Jinping on his election as General Secretary of the 20th tenure and for being established as the leadership core of the CPC Central Committee and the entire CPC.

Chinese General Secretary and President Xi Jinping congratulated the 13th Congress of the CPV, which set the development goals and paths for the periods until 2025, 2030 and 2045, and expressed his confidence that under the leadership of the CPV, headed by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, the Vietnamese people will successfully realise the objectives and tasks set by the 13th Congress.

Underlining that Vietnam and China are neighbours and are both socialist countries under the leadership of the Communist Party, with the traditional friendship established and cultivated by President Ho Chi Minh and Chairman Mao Zedong along with the revolutionaries of the previous generations, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong affirmed that Vietnam always gives the top priority to developing the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership with China.

Chinese General Secretary and President Xi Jinping affirmed that the Chinese Party, State and people always attach great importance to the relationship with Vietnam, and stand ready to work together with the Vietnamese Party, State and people to enhance the friendship and cooperation and elevate the bilateral relationship.

Highly evaluating the healthy development in the relationship between the two Parties and countries, the two General Secretaries discussed in depth the major orientations to strengthen trust, consolidate the friendship, enhance substantive cooperation, maintain peace and stability at sea. The two sides agreed to strengthen communication and high-level meetings, promote the strategic guiding role of inter-Party cooperation in order to increase understanding and maintain the friendly situation and the healthy and stable development in bilateral relations.

The two sides also agreed to step up economic, trade and investment cooperation to create a solid foundation for the development of bilateral ties, and to further deepen cooperation in diplomacy, defence-security and coordination at regional and international forums. The two sides underlined the importance of maintaining peace and stability at sea, the adherence to common perceptions reached by high-ranking leaders, the respect for the legal and legitimate interests, and the resolution of disputes by peaceful means in accordance with international law.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong’s visit to China was a great success, helping to take the traditional neighbourliness and the Vietnam-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership into a new period, continuing to develop in a healthy, stable and sustainable manner while meeting the desires of and bringing substantive benefits to both countries’ peoples, thus contributing to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world at large.
