Kien Giang: To transform education digitally through KAV Open School in the era of advancement

The Kien Giang Department of Education and Training has recently applied information technologies to education through KAV Open School. This is a significant step toward Kien Giang's digital transformation goals outlined in the 2025 development plan.

Kien Giang, a remote Southwest province with one island city (Phu Quoc), one island district (Kien Hai), one city with island communes (Ha Tien), and one district with island communes (Kien Luong), is making strides in the digital transformation of education.

Determined to implement digital transformation in education to improve the learning quality for students

One of the biggest challenges in Kien Giang's digital transformation of education is implementing software systems in schools on its islands.

One of the biggest challenges in Kien Giang's digital education transformation is implementing software systems in schools on its islands. Kien Giang has many educational institutions scattered across islands like Ha Tien, Phu Quoc, Kien Luong, and Kien Hai, where information technology infrastructure is limited. According to the Department of Education and Training, numerous schools struggle with unstable internet connectivity and lack adequate online learning equipment.

However, with the provincial government's strong commitment, all island schools now have internet access, and investments in facilities are underway to achieve further progress in the coming years.

Despite many difficulties, Kien Giang is determined to transform digitally to improve the quality of learning for students.
Despite many difficulties, Kien Giang is determined to transform digitally to improve students' learning quality.

In particular, from the new school year 2024 - 2025, the Department of Education and Training has applied information technologies in teaching and learning through the Khan Academy Vietnam (KAV) Open School model. By using the Khan Academy platform, teachers can assign assignments and evaluate students quickly. Students, especially those in island areas, can study online anytime and anywhere without fear of interruption.

Recently, Mr. Tran Quang Bao, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Kien Giang, shared the drastic orientations on the goals of the KAV Open School project. He emphasized that this is an important step in the province's digital transformation roadmap for education, not only applying technology but also fundamentally changing the method of education, helping students and teachers make the most of the power of information technology to improve the quality of learning.

Sharing Mr. Bao's view, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tam, Head of the Department of General Education and Continuing Education, emphasized the importance of digital transformation in education, especially through the KAV Open School project. He believes this is a breakthrough that can improve the quality of teaching in the digital age.

According to Mr. Tam, digital transformation in education involves applying technology in the classroom and changing how students and teachers learn and teach, enabling them to access knowledge in innovative ways. He emphasized, "This is a very specific and effective learning channel that can help students improve their learning, regardless of whether they are studying math or other natural sciences. By fully utilizing and implementing this platform with determination and resolve, we can enhance the quality of education from primary to high school"

Effective digital transformation requires specific actions

In successfully implementing digital transformation through KAV Open School, Mr. Bao called on units to continue to thoroughly grasp the digital transformation goals through directive documents and specific actions. In particular, schools need to change their mindset, viewing online learning through the Khan Academy platform as an opportunity for students to practice and supplement their knowledge, not a formal or difficult task for teachers.

Mr. Bao emphasized the role of inspection and supervision during the implementation process, considering this an important factor to ensure the effectiveness of the digital transformation project through KAV Open School. He said that units must continuously monitor the implementation process, check learning outcomes and provide clear evidence of the set targets' achievement. “We need to regularly check the progress to know how far the schools have achieved and have timely support measures because without inspection, all plans will become unrealistic, and difficulties will pile up”. Not only stopping at the target of the number of participating students, Mr. Bao is also deeply concerned about the output quality from the KAV Open School model. He wants teachers to proactively and accurately assess students' knowledge acquisition levels.

With high determination, Mr. Bao emphasized that applying to Open School will help Kien Giang meet the digital transformation targets of the Ministry of Education and Training and create a flexible learning platform, helping students access knowledge anytime, anywhere. He believes that KAV Open School will become a support tool and the core of the roadmap to innovate and improve the quality of education in the province.

He believes that with determination towards the set goals, Kien Giang will make great strides in applying information technology to education, contributing to bringing the province's education to a new level in the context of national digital transformation.
