Frost and sleet forecast for northern mountainous region at year-end

Temperatures in northern Vietnam are forecast to drop sharply from December 29 with frost and sleet expected to occur in the high mountainous region.

On the morning of December 24, the cold air has affected the northeast and will continue to extend to the north central, north western and central regions.

The lowest temperatures hovered at around 15-18C, while the mercury could drop to 10-12C in northern mountainous provinces.

In the capital of Ha Noi, there is no rain and the lowest temperatures ranged between 16C and 18C during the night and early morning.

Due to the impact of cold air, combined with eastern wind turbulence, rains are forecast for the provinces from Nghe An to Khanh Hoa, with medium to heavy rains expected from Quang Tri to Binh Dinh provinces.

Thunderstorms could occur in a number of places combined with whirlwinds, lightning, hail and strong gusts.
