Notably, the event featured participation from the Vice President of the European Commission, Vietnam’s Deputy Minister of Education and Training, the EU Ambassador to Vietnam, and representatives from EU member countries.

The event attracted over 500 online registrations, demonstrating a strong interest in the Erasmus+ program in Vietnam. Erasmus+ is the EU's flagship program for education, training, youth, and sports.

Held on October 22-23 in Hanoi, the event featured discussions on key components of Erasmus+, including the Capacity Building in Higher Education (CBHE), International Credit Mobility (ICM), and the Jean Monnet Actions (JMA).

In addition, participants from both regions shared practical experiences and highlighted the achievements and opportunities that Erasmus+ provides. The event fostered the exploration of new partnerships to support the internationalisation and modernisation of higher education in Vietnam.

Furthermore, discussions focused on Project 89 - Vietnam’s program for developing high-quality human resources. A special session was held between the EU alumni network and European businesses in Vietnam, addressing workforce needs and aligning training with industry requirements.

Vice President of the European Commission, Margaritis Schinas, emphasised that: “Erasmus+ has long been a beacon of educational excellence and cultural exchange within Europe. But its international dimension extends far beyond the EU borders, fostering global partnerships and mutual understanding. By expanding the horizons of Erasmus+, we are not just enhancing educational opportunities but also deepening our ties with countries around the world, including Vietnam.”

Also at the event, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Van Phuc shared at event: “Education and training are Vietnam's top priority policies, and the development of education is considered one of the three breakthroughs for implementing the country's Socio-Economic Development Strategy. Vietnam understands the need to proactively integrate to the world, promote in-coming foreign investment to the education sector to improve the quality of Vietnamese education.

It can be said that up to present, the Europe – Vietnam partnership has developed strongly, in which higher education cooperation is a major focus. Especially since 2015, when the ERAMUS + officially started its first phase in Vietnam to support the 2 enhancement of higher education capacity, the expansion of connectivity and scientific research cooperation between European and Vietnamese higher training institutions has grown stronger and achieved many remarkable achievements.”

Erasmus+ Day followed the success of the recent European Higher Education Week on 19 and 20 October, which attracted nearly 3,000 on-site attendees in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi as part of European Higher Education Week 2024.
