Population and land area statistics of 23 merged provincial units

At its 11th plenum, the 13th Party Central Committee reached consensus on a policy to restructure provincial-level administrative units nationwide, reducing the total number from 63 to 34—including 28 provinces and six centrally governed cities. Under the plan, 11 existing units will remain unchanged, while the remaining 52 will be consolidated into 23 newly formed provincial-level administrative units.
