On June 14, in response to a reporter's question regarding Brazil’s announcement that Vietnam has officially become a BRICS partner country, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam Pham Thu Hang emphasized that in the spirit of proactive, comprehensive, and effective international integration, Vietnam has been making practical contributions to multilateral mechanisms, organizations, and forums, thereby contributing to peace, stability, cooperation, and development in the region and beyond.

The Spokesperson noted that Vietnam's participation as a BRICS partner country, alongside its active engagement in other multilateral frameworks such as the United Nations, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), the expanded Group of Seven (G7), the expanded Group of Twenty (G20), and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), reflects its desire to contribute actively to enhancing the voice and role of developing countries, while promoting international solidarity and inclusive multilateralism based on respect for international lawx

This development also reaffirms Vietnam’s consistent foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization and diversification of external relations, and its aspiration to be a trusted partner and an active, responsible member of the international community.

BRICS currently comprises 11 members: Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia, Indonesia, and Iran. It serves as a political and diplomatic coordination forum for countries of the Global South, fostering cooperation across a wide range of fields.

Vietnam is the 10th BRICS partner country, joining Belarus, Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Cuba, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Uganda, and Uzbekistan.
